  • As well known, to solve users' difficulty in resizing partition, Microsoft adds partition resizing functions to the system's built-in disk management tools of Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7. In spite of the new added functions, the system's built-in disk utility has failed to resize partition for Windows freely. In the following situation, the built-in disk tool disappoints users in resizing Windows partition.



    The above shows the built-in disk management tool in Windows Server 2003. If we would like to use the unallocated space in Disk 0 to extend Partition C:, unfortunately, it can not be realized. When we select Partition C: and right click mouse, the option "Extend Volume…" is unavailable, so Partition C: is unable to be extended. Why? The built-in utility has many limitations, though it has functions of resizing Windows partition. Extending partition with Windows built-in disk utility is based on that there must be unallocated space behind and adjacent to the partition to be extended. According to the picture, the premise is not met, so Partition C: can not be expanded in this way.

    In this interface, drag Partition Handle directly or input exact value to move Partition Handle, thereby moving Partition E:. Then click "OK" to go back to the main interface.



    In the main interface, Partition E: has been moved and the unallocated space is adjacent to Partition C:, so we can extend Partition C:. Select Partition C: and click "Move/Resize" again.



    Drag the right triangle rightward to extend Partition C: and then click "OK" to return to the main interface.



    In this interface, Partition C: has been extended successfully. Please click "Apply". After all previous operations are finished, resizing Partition C: is achieved.
